In our morning basket, we always include some sort of poem reading, mostly from the book Days Like This by Simon James – but I was really searching for a Christ-focused option, like the other books included in our basket.

Enter in, The Acrostic of Jesus: A Rhyming Christology for Kids!

When I first saw this book, I was so intimidated. By what, you ask? The word “acrostic.”

I had never heard that word before and immediately thought, whoa, that seems complicated.

A quick google search later and I realized the word acrostic simply means a “collection of poems.” I felt so silly, but was so glad I looked more into it because this book has been such a blessing!

Not only does it talk about the different attributes of Jesus with scripture to back it up, but also does it in an ABC format – perfect for helping your little ones learn their ABCs in a godly way!

The Acrostic of Jesus is the second book in a series of FIVE – the first one, The Acrostic of God: A Rhyming Theology For Kids, has already been released, followed by this one and more coming in the next year!

We found out about the Acrostic of Jesus first, but quickly purchased both and have been going back and forth between the two.

So you may have some more questions like what ages is this book best for, what’s the format each day, etc.?

Let’s dive into this specific book about the attributes of Jesus, and answers some of your questions next…

Book Layout

The layout of this book is so simple and “user-friendly.”

It only takes about 5-10 minutes to read through and go over with your kids. We usually end with this book at the end of our morning basket routine.

This book measures about 8.75 inches by 5.75 inches – it is in hardcover format with paper pages – so when reading with younger kids I would make sure to guide them so the pages won’t tear.

Each day features:

  • An attribute of Jesus beginning with each letter of the alphabet
  • 4-line poem about Jesus and that attribute
  • Scripture reference at the bottom relating to the attribute – great to use for memorizing scripture!
  • Beautiful illustration of the letter for that day to visually appeal to kids

Here is an example of one of the pages:

I really love the illustrations! They are so beautiful and my daughter is always looking at the picture and asking questions about them. Kids will love them!

There are also some different ways you can approach this book. One way is to read through it one poem day – so 26 days of A-Z.

But you can also reread the same one every day for a week, or however long, to help your kids with scripture memorization!

Once they have memorized it, you can even work on memorizing the whole poem and really instill those biblical truths in them.

It’s a great one to pick up for a quick read and you can bounce around the book as needed!

What Ages Is This Book For?

What I really love about this book is that it is great for a variety of ages and family sizes!

Whether you have young preschool-age children or older elementary/beginning middle school.

It only takes a few minutes to read over so whether you do this in the morning, in the car before school, during your homeschool routine, family Bible time, or after dinner… there are so many options!

My daughter is 5 and it’s simple enough to keep her attention, but helps when teaching her biblical truths and concepts of who Jesus is.

This book series is also great if you homeschool, because it can easily be included in your Bible learning and Literature studies.

You can also read these to your Sunday school classes or during Kids Ministry at church. Better yet, order one for your church library!

Overall I would say this book is great for ages 4-11.
