Do you have a home garden? There are so many great benefits to growing your own garden, especially for your family!

Part of the equation though is the hope and prayer that your garden will yield a good harvest, right? Otherwise, what’s the point?!

Here are 4 mighty prayers you can pray over your vegetable garden!

I never would’ve considered myself a “green thumb.” I still don’t to be honest.

But what I do know is this desire that God has planted in me (yes, pun intended) for gardening. He’s given me a desire in wanting to provide food for our family and share that food with others.

But HE is the one who brings growth, right?? He brings dead things to life! So why try and grow a garden without asking His blessing?

That’s why I wanted to share with you these garden prayers!

These are specific prayers we have prayed over our own home garden. Whether you are a pro, or just beginning, you are in the right place…

You’ll definitely want to get the kids involved too with these garden prayers! Building a garden with kids is so beneficial, and a great way to teach them about God and how He grows us too.

It’s also a fantastic way to teach them how to pray! God cares about the things that we do, and wants us to come to Him in prayer over every aspect, including our home gardens.

I’ve also included some scripture references with each prayer so you can look them up and dig into His Word!

There are some things you may want to do before and while praying for your garden, including:

• Ask God to purify your hearts and desires for this garden – we have done this and have seen a great harvest as a result
• Read the scriptures included while prayer walking around your garden
• Pray these prayers together as a family
• Use the prayers as a guide – feel free to personalize them to you, your family, and your garden
• If you don’t have a garden, pray for those around you who do!

It’s a beautiful thing to be able to pray over your garden and read God’s Word over it.

His Word helps us grow in love and likeness of Him, so how much more would these prayers and scriptures bring life to our home gardens.

Prayers to Pray Over Your Vegetable Garden

Without further ado, here are 4 prayers of blessing to pray over your home vegetable garden, with scripture references!

1. General Garden Blessing Prayer

“For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.” Isaiah 61:11 NIV

“Father God, thank you so much for the blessing of being able to have a garden. Lord, we ask that you purify our hearts, and make our desires holy unto you. Our desire for this garden is so that we can provide for our family, and be able to bless and give to others.

We recognize that you are the one who makes the garden grow. We pray for the soil that the plants will be in, for you to have your hand over them. Help us be able to care for them as you care for us.

As the plants rise up and the seeds grow, we ask that we would remember to praise you and share with others about you and what you have done in our lives. Bless this garden and bless this home, we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

2. Prayer of Blessing For The Gardener

“She appraises a field and buys it; from her earnings she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength and shows that her arms are strong. She sees that her gain is good, and her lamp is not extinguished at night.” Proverbs 31:16-18 NIV

“Heavenly Father, we ask for a specific prayer of blessing for our family as the gardeners – specifically for (name). You tell us in Your Word that a woman who fears you and loves you plants a vineyard. God give us the strength the only you can give, that our gain is good, and that our lamp is not extinguished at night.

We pray a blessing over the desire to care for and provide food for our families. We ask that you would remind us to give more than we keep. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

“The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11 NIV

“Father God, we ask right now for your guidance in our lives. Outside of anything we do, any decision that we make, we know that only you alone can satisfy us, Lord. We ask for strength for the hard work that goes into planting and caring for a garden.

We ask for you to continue watering our souls with your everlasting fountain, so that we may be poured into and pour into others. All of this we ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

3. Prayer For Protection

“For you have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place. No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent.” Psalm 91:9 NIV

“Lord, right now we lift up our garden to you. God, we ask for your mighty and protective hand over it. We pray against any schemes of the enemy to thwart our desires for this garden. We pray against any evil, disease, creatures, and other things that would try and take away from it.

Thank you God, in advance for the protection you will give, and acknowledge you as our healer and protector. In Your holy name, we pray, Amen.”

4. Prayer For The Harvest

“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:7 NIV

“Lord, first we want to thank you for the harvest that will come from this garden. Thank you for your hand in protecting it, and for keeping us strong in taking care of it. We recognize that YOU alone Lord, are the one who brings the growth.

You ask us to work with our hands by planting the seeds, caring for it by watering, and harvesting at the right time. But without you God, there is no such thing as dead things being brought to life.

I pray that we remember this in our lives as we witness to other people God, and let this garden be a beautiful tool to do that. We ask in Your name, Amen.”
