Morning prayers for kids are SO important, for so many different reasons!
When we begin our day with our focus on God, we start that day with the right mindset.
Isaiah 55:9 says that His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are higher than ours. That means we want to take on the mind of Christ, so we can stay in tune with the Holy Spirit throughout the day.
How do we do this? Praying first thing in the morning!
It’s so important for us as parents to have our own quiet time/morning routine, and the best way we can teach our children this is to lead by example.
Does that mean our circumstances will change? Not necessarily. But do we know what will? Our attitudes and responses towards those.
We want to make sure our children are prayed over, and equip them to be able to pray powerful prayers on their own, and lay those biblical foundations of praying and reading God’s Word alongside them.
There are so many benefits to morning prayers for kids, some including:
- Deepening their relationship with the Lord
- Starting the day with the mind of Christ
- Learning spiritual disciplines early
- Being protected from the enemy’s schemes
You can also encourage them to read their Bibles or read with them during your morning basket routine, praying together and helping them pray on their own as well.
These morning prayers are a great tool for guiding your children in prayer, no matter their ages! They are short so even younger children can memorize and repeat them, and older kids can expand on them and personalize as they grow.
So how do we teach these morning prayers to our kids and/or when do we start? I’m glad you asked…
Teaching Your Kids To Pray In The Morning
There are many ways to say morning prayers! The reason we do so in the morning is again, to take on the mind of Christ before our day begins.
I’m not going to lie, it’s so tempting to want to grab my phone or turn on the TV when we get up, but God wants us to give our FIRST (and all) to Him.
But it starts with your developing your own quiet time routine with God in the morning. This may mean aking up before your kids so you can have those first few minutes of peace.
However, I understand that doesn’t always happen!
It’s okay to let your kids see you reading the Bible; in fact, there are a lot of benefits to that! The point is to make sure you are leading them by example, and that you have a God-focused mindset to help your children too.
Here is how you can teach your children to start their day with prayers:
- Let me wake up to see you reading and praying
- Read and pray these prayers during your morning basket time
- Before breakfast, sit with them and repeat these morning prayers
- Pray with them at night time and remind them to pray each morning too
- Download the printable morning prayers at the bottom of this post and tape them up in their rooms!
Also, what is SO beneficial about these morning prayers is that they are short, simple, and rooted in scripture. Praying God’s Word is SO powerful and something we want our children to understand.

This is a prayer that can be said every day, and a great start when introducing your kids to morning prayer time.

We know how important it is to watch for the company we keep in friends. The Bible is FULL of wisdom in this area, and it’s something we want our kids, especially to be mindful of.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 NIV
6. Prayer For Attitude
Can any other mom relate to their children having a poor attitude?? I know I’m not alone!
This is why it’s so important to pray for the mind of Christ and the right attitude in our parenting, and encourage our kids to do so with this prayer as well…
Prayer: Father God, help me to act like Jesus today. Help me to respond to people like you would. Help me follow Jesus’ example. In your name I pray, Amen.

“So then, this is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.”
