Morning prayers for kids are SO important, for so many different reasons!

When we begin our day with our focus on God, we start that day with the right mindset.

Isaiah 55:9 says that His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are higher than ours. That means we want to take on the mind of Christ, so we can stay in tune with the Holy Spirit throughout the day.

How do we do this? Praying first thing in the morning!

It’s so important for us as parents to have our own quiet time/morning routine, and the best way we can teach our children this is to lead by example.

Does that mean our circumstances will change? Not necessarily. But do we know what will? Our attitudes and responses towards those.

We want to make sure our children are prayed over, and equip them to be able to pray powerful prayers on their own, and lay those biblical foundations of praying and reading God’s Word alongside them.

There are so many benefits to morning prayers for kids, some including:

  • Deepening their relationship with the Lord
  • Starting the day with the mind of Christ
  • Learning spiritual disciplines early
  • Being protected from the enemy’s schemes

You can also encourage them to read their Bibles or read with them during your morning basket routine, praying together and helping them pray on their own as well.

These morning prayers are a great tool for guiding your children in prayer, no matter their ages! They are short so even younger children can memorize and repeat them, and older kids can expand on them and personalize as they grow.

So how do we teach these morning prayers to our kids and/or when do we start? I’m glad you asked…

Teaching Your Kids To Pray In The Morning

There are many ways to say morning prayers! The reason we do so in the morning is again, to take on the mind of Christ before our day begins.

I’m not going to lie, it’s so tempting to want to grab my phone or turn on the TV when we get up, but God wants us to give our FIRST (and all) to Him.

But it starts with your developing your own quiet time routine with God in the morning. This may mean aking up before your kids so you can have those first few minutes of peace.

However, I understand that doesn’t always happen!

It’s okay to let your kids see you reading the Bible; in fact, there are a lot of benefits to that! The point is to make sure you are leading them by example, and that you have a God-focused mindset to help your children too.

Here is how you can teach your children to start their day with prayers:

  • Let me wake up to see you reading and praying
  • Read and pray these prayers during your morning basket time
  • Before breakfast, sit with them and repeat these morning prayers
  • Pray with them at night time and remind them to pray each morning too

Also, what is SO beneficial about these morning prayers is that they are short, simple, and rooted in scripture. Praying God’s Word is SO powerful and something we want our children to understand.

10 Short Morning Prayers For Kids To Repeat

Now that you’ve got a plan in place and understand why it’s so important for our children to pray morning prayers, here are 10 powerful (and short!) morning prayers for kids to repeat each day.

Each one includes a short prayer point for them to pray, with a scripture included (encourage them to pray the scripture as well by reading it out loud, or by you reading it with them!).

Without further ado, here are 10 children’s morning prayers to repeat each day…

1. Simple General Morning Prayer

This is a prayer that can be said every day, and a great start when introducing your kids to morning prayer time.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for this new day. Help me to use it wisely and to do things that will please you. I pray for your thoughts, not my own, and that I will be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

2. Prayer For A New Day

Each day that God gives us is a blessing, and this prayer will help your children remember that every day is a blessing from Him!

Prayer: Father God, thank you for this new day. Each day you give us is a blessing and another opportunity to glorify you. Help me honor you today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22 NIV

3. Morning Prayer For Thankfulness

Beginning our day with thanksgiving not only renews our mind and gets the focus off of ourselves, but also reminds us of what God has done for us!

Prayer: Father God, thank you for who you are and for this day. Remind me to give thanks in every situation, and know that you are good always. Thank you. Amen.

4. Prayer For Family

Teaching children to pray for their families is a beautiful thing and something we each do because we love one another. God has given us a beautiful gift in our families.

Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for my family. Help me to bless them today. I pray that you will help me humble myself and put others before me. Amen.

5. Prayer For Friends

We know how important it is to watch for the company we keep in friends. The Bible is FULL of wisdom in this area, and it’s something we want our kids, especially to be mindful of.

Prayer: Father God, help me to choose my friends wisely. Surround me with friends who will encourage me with your Word. Also, help me to be a blessing to my friends. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

6. Prayer For Attitude

Can any other mom relate to their children having a poor attitude?? I know I’m not alone!

This is why it’s so important to pray for the mind of Christ and the right attitude in our parenting, and encourage our kids to do so with this prayer as well…

Prayer: Father God, help me to act like Jesus today. Help me to respond to people like you would. Help me follow Jesus’ example. In your name I pray, Amen.

7. Affirming Morning Prayer

Our children need to be affirmed, and not by the world but by the WORD. Let this prayer remind them of God‘s promises, and who they are in Christ.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for making me a new creation. Remind me that I don’t have to live like I used to. Because of Jesus, you have forgiven me and made me new. Amen.

8. Prayer For God To Guide Me

This prayer focuses on helping our kids trust in God fully – remind them that our hearts will deceive us, but following GOd’s path will always lead us in the right direction!

Prayer: Father God, I ask that you would guide me today. Help me trust you and lean on you today. My heart doesn’t always tell me the truth, but your Word will lead me on the right path. Amen.
