It’s so important to remember why we celebrate Easter. Everything we do in life as Christians, points back to Jesus, and this is something we want to teach our kids too!

It may be the single most important thing we teach them, because the resurrection of Christ is after all, the GOSPEL! Good news!!

And this isn’t something we just talk about at Easter and then toss to the side til next year.

No, this is something that our entire belief system is based on – that Jesus died for our sins and rose again so we can have salvation through Him alone! Praise God! 🙌🏻

And to help teach your kids (even toddlers) and help them understand Jesus’ resurrection, taking a fun and creative approach is sure to speak volumes to them! So let’s get right into it…

1. Read The Resurrection Story To Your Kids

What’s the best way to start teaching your kids about Jesus’ resurrection? Read them the story!

I would suggest doing this two ways…

One, read to them out of your family Bible. You can break it down into sections and read to them one at a time the week leading up to Easter, depending on their age and how much they can take in at once.

Or read to them from an illustrated kids’ Bible! Here are 7 great kids storybook Bibles to choose from!

Two, and I HIGHLY recommend this method… read them Christ-Centered Easter storybooks during Easter and throughout the year!

There are so many different options, and I have a great list of our favorite Christian Easter books for kids you can start from, as well as a fun Easter reading challenge to get everyone started.

These stories are great for younger kids, bedtime reading, daytime reading… any time! And they all point back to Jesus with fun illustrations and simple phrases for kids to remember.

There are books on that list that range anywhere from infants to toddlers to 10 year olds! You can definitely find one that fits your family and kids’ needs.

2. Sing Praise & Worship Songs That Teach About Jesus’ Resurrection

How often do you hear a certain song and it automatically brings you to a specific memory? Probably quite often!

I know I can hear a song from waaaaaaay back in the day and remember all most of the lyrics!

What if we could teach our kids praise songs that make them think of Jesus at Easter time??

Learning through song is so important for kids! Think about it, how do we teach them about basic, day-to-day things? We make up or sing well-known songs!

For example: days of the week, the rainbow, weather songs, and more.

These uplifting Christian Easter songs for kids will not only help them learn about the resurrection, but they are super fun to sing along and dance to!

God loves to hear us sing to him, especially young kids! What better way to teach them more about him than through praise and worship music geared towards kids. 🙂

3. Tell The Story Of Jesus’ Resurrection With A Flashlight

Are any of your kids obsessed with flashlights? I’m raising my hand here!

You can use flashlights to retell the story of Jesus’ resurrection!

You can either read the Easter story or use this fun (free) printable Easter story for kids activity, but use the flashlights to emphasize certain points!

For example, turn them off when speaking of His crucifixion and burial, and then turn them on and speak in an EXCITED voice to represent Jesus coming back to life and rolling the stone away!

This will create a great atmosphere for your kids to help them understand the seriousness of the story, but also the joy and in a super FUN and interactive way. 🙂

4. Find Fun Christ-Centered Activities

Kids absolutely LOVE hands-on activities, and it is a great tool to use to teach them about the resurrection!

So many things we do on a daily basis point to Christ, so it doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Find a few fun and simple Christian Easter activities for kids and enjoy some awesome family time together!

I’ve also got a couple of FANTASTIC Easter activity printables in my FREE printables library – an Easter reading log, Easter story cube activity printable, and some colorable Christian Easter placemats!!

There are so many different activities and crafts you can do, the most important thing is to point it all back to Jesus and what he did on the cross for us.

5. Make A Christian Easter Basket For Your Kids

Does anyone else do Easter baskets for their kids each year??

Maybe you filled them with cute stuffed animals, DVDs, yummy treats, and maybe even a book or two!

While all of those things are great, you can use this as an opportunity to fill their Easter baskets with Christ-centered items and activities, on top of the other stuff! All of these will help you teach them about the true meaning of Easter, Jesus’ death and resurrection!

Some things you can put in their Easter baskets (all Christ-centered):

  • Books
  • DVDs
  • Activity Printables or Crafts
  • Puzzles
  • Wooden toys

6. Watch Resurrection Related Christian TV Shows

7. Pray And Ask Questions With Your Child

The most important way we can teach our kids about Jesus’ resurrection… through prayer and living it out every day!

Easter may be a once-a-year holiday, but the resurrection of Jesus is something to be celebrated every day.

We can pray that God helps our children understand the Good News, and help teach our kids to pray so they can ultimately come to know Him!

It’s also important to let them ask questions.

There may be things about the story that doesn’t make sense to them, and that’s okay! You want them to ask questions because it means they are learning about God and His Word!

What if you don’t know the answer?

That’s okay too! In fact, this would be a great opportunity to read the Bible together and figure it out. 🙂

Simple Ways To Teach Your Kids About The Resurrection

Whether you are going through this for the first time, or just needing some fresh inspiration, I hope you feel more confident when teaching your kids about Jesus’ resurrection!

I pray your kids love hearing about the Good News this Easter (and all year long)! 🙂

  1. I think this is great. I don’t have children, but I think it is important that those who do understand that they need to make sure their children understand that Easter is not about a bunny and Easter eggs! We can keep the fun while teaching them about our greatest gift, the gift of salvation from our Lord. Great ideas! 🙂

    1. Exactly! Easter eggs hunts and such are fun (and we do participate in them!) but the joy in knowing what Christ did for us outweighs it all! Thank you so much for your comment. 🙂
