Reading the Bible to your kids from a young age is SO important. It is absolutely amazing how much information they can take in even as infants/toddlers.

So why not fill their minds with scripture? You can read the Bible to them, always a great thing, especially in the morning or before bedtime. What better way to send them off to dreamland?

You can even give your kids one of these Bibles to look at and talk about, as they watch you do your daily Bible reading as well!

There are SO many great benefits for your kids when you’re teaching them about God’s Word by reading Bible storybooks, especially with the bright and fun illustrations…

  • Helps your kids understand God’s truths from a young age
  • The bright pictures and colors are stimulating for them
  • They usually focus on “simplifying” Bible stories to help them understand them better
  • Repetitive reading and seeing pictures help them retain the information more!
  • Sets them up for studying the Bible on their own once they get older
  • You can ask questions to your preschoolers and have meaningful conversations about the Bible

Bible storybooks also make GREAT gifts for kids for Christmas, Easter baskets, birthdays, baptisms, etc. No more searching for toys and other stuff you really don’t need!

What To Look For in a Story Bible?

There are so many different opinions on this, and I wanted to share my two cents here…

I think story Bibles are amazing! And I think using multiple ones is great too.

Do they replace the Holy, inherent, TRUE Word of God? No.

Do they help kids understand God’s Word, learn to love the Bible, and lead into conversations that glorify God? Yes, they can!

But there are so many story Bibles out there, so how do you choose the right one for your family? You want to make sure you are looking for this ONE main thing…

Does this story Bible stay true to scripture?

Yes, these are geared towards kids, but God’s Word is the truth (2 Timothy 3:16). There’s a difference between simplifying what the Bible says so children can understand, and changing God’s Word.

Definitely be on the lookout for that!

Even better, story Bibles for kids that include scripture references, so you can refer back to your Bible and read that as well with your kids.

Adding any (or ALL) of these kids’ Bible books to your collection will definitely help them, and you, learn more about God’s Word!!

Let’s take a look at these 9 BEST illustrated Bible storybooks for kids

1. Laugh And Grow Bible For Kids

We personally have this one and it is HANDS DOWN my favorite storybook Bible for kids.

This kids’ Bible is geared for ages 4 – 8, a great “next step” Bible once they leave the toddler stage and enter preschool/elementary school.

It has 52 beautifully illustrated Bible stories starting allllll the way back in Genesis through Revelation. It reads through very nicely so whether you are reading to your younger kids, or if they are reading themselves, it helps it make sense.

Each story ends with simple questions to talk about as a family and really hits home the key points of the story plus an easy prayer to pray together.

The thing that’s great about it is that the 52 weeks are perfect for really reiterating one story per week. I would even suggest doing the same story each night during family bible time and then moving on to the next the following week.

So really you are getting your kids their own Bible reading plan! Win-win!

You can get the Laugh And Grow Kids illustrated Bible on Amazon.

We absolutely LOVE our Go Minno TV subscription! It has amazing Christian TV shows for kids AND it’s less than $5 a month and you can get your first month FREE with this link. Here is our personal watchlist:

Now, if you have younger kids than the 4 – 8 range, I’ve got a GREAT option for you…

Laugh And Grow Bible for Little Ones

This is the younger version of the above book! It’s a board book style for those little hands that like to place things in the mouth or maaaaybe not be super gentle. 😉

This is a collection of the Gospel in 15 one-minute Bible stories perfect for ages infant – 3 years.

This is a GREAT way to get your kids started in studying God’s Word before moving up to the Laugh & Grow Bible – especially since you will keep the same style of whenever you have Bible reading time with your kids.

You can see the Laugh And Grow For Little Ones storybook Bible here on Amazon.

This is a great prequel to any of these other options on the list as well! This leads to the rest of these awesome illustrated bible storybooks…

2. The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible

We love this entire Gospel Story series, and The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible by Jared Kennedy is a great complement to it! This book is a MUST have storybook Bible for younger kids, ages 2-6.

It tells different stories in the Bible from the Old to New Testament with beautiful illustrations, and questions to help relate it back to your littles.

We keep this one in our morning basket and read it regularly. It’s great even for kids who are a little older but not quite reading yet!

And if your kids are a little older (let’s say 6+) you can check out the original Gospel Story Bible – we have this one too and use them interchangeably!

3. The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories

This kids Bible is a CLASSIC!

Do you remember when you were a kid *cough* early 90s for me *cough* and you’d go to places like the doctors’ office or dentist, they had this shelf of tattered books?

Well, this amazing beginner’s Bible storybook was probably one of the ones you saw there!

It’s been around for over 30 years and is definitely a favorite Christian resource Bible among parents, kids, Sunday school teachers, you name it!

The pages themselves are SO bright and bold, and just beautifully illustrated, and it includes over 90 Bible stories and 584 pages!! It’s great for babies – elementary-aged children!

Once again another win, the text is super easy to read to your kids or for your young readers to study the Bible on their own. All of it is preparing them to start good habits now for studying the Bible later in life.

You can find the Beginner’s Storybook Bible here on Amazon.

4. The Usborne Book Of Bible Stories

I don’t know if you have heard of Usborne books, but they are absolutely amazing. Perfect for teaching your kids, building their imagination, fun entertainment, and can even be used in homeschooling!

Other than that, what sets THIS illustrated Bible storybook apart from the others???

It includes a read/listen-along CD for each story!! 🤯

Kids LOVE interactive things. Why not try learning Bible stories in a fun and new way? Younger kids can help associate the pictures while listening to the stories, and older kids can follow along with the words!

Learn the Bible AND read at the same time? Yes, please!

This is our personal copy… we love it!

Also, I think it helps kids to hear the CD more so than Mom and Dad’s voice all the time; it can be a nice thing for them and keep their attention longer!

This Story Bible includes beautiful illustrations, 195 pages with stories from the Old and New Testament, and is intended for ages 5 – 6.

It’s written in very simple language, so I would say this is more toddler style OR great for beginning readers to read on their own.

*We started using it when my daughter was 2 and she loved it! So hopefully that gives a good age idea.

If your children are elementary-aged or older, I’d start with one of the other options on this list.

You can find this CD storybook Bible here on Amazon.

5. My First Bible Stories

This book of first Bible stories may be one of my favorites! It includes over 100 stories and inspirational words, with gorgeous artwork throughout. It’s 192 pages and great for ages 4 – 7.

One thing I REALLY love about this one… the illustrations are just so pretty and serene. It looks sooooo cute on a statement bookshelf in your child’s room or nursery!

They just really give you a sense of peace and calm, making it great for bedtime Bible reading.

It would also make a great gift for Christmas, Easter baskets, baptisms of any other occasion! 🙂

You can find this story Bible here on Amazon – and some others from the same brand as well!

6. 365 Bible Stories and Prayers

This classic story Bible is great because it includes 365, one-page stories from the Old & New Testaments. That’s one story for every day of the year!

It’s great to read the Bible to and with your children, but I get it, life happens sometimes. These SUPER quick, one-page stories are a great addition to your busy days.

One-page stories are FANTASIC for bedtime, family Bible time, or quick book reading throughout the day, especially for younger kids!

This Bible Storybook is 384 pages and geared for ages 3 – 8. This gives you a great range, and lots of use can come from it. 🙂

You can find this devotional story Bible here on Amazon!

7. My Little Library: Bible Storybooks

How adorable is the little Bible storybook set! This is great for tiny hands, from babies – 5 years old, and a fun way for kids to start learning the Bible.

This collection includes 12 mini board books (120 pages total) based on traditional Bible stories with popular Bible characters, as well as learning about Jesus, and a good basic understanding of God!

That’s not all… there is a bonus with this set!

You can actually download the app from this company and access three of the stories on your phone or tablet! Great for on-the-go Bible learning, and a good screen time option.

It also comes in a cute box to store it in, which is always fun and practical. 🙂

You can find this devotional story Bible here on Amazon!

8. The Biggest Story Bible Storybook

So, this is a newer one to me but we have read many, many, MANY of the stories and I have to say we really like it!

I’ve been researching it for a while but was hesitant to buy it, I’m not really sure why.

But after praying and feeling like it would be a good one to add, it turns out our wonderful children’s ministry at church gave us a copy for FREE!

However, I would’ve bought it anyway because it’s quickly become a favorite! 🙌🏻

Each page tells about the God who created the world, through the Old and New Testaments, with scripture references and a prayer to pray. The illustrations are BEAUTIFUL – maybe the best from any of the above books.

We have read a few of these stories throughout our days but it would be great for anytime such as:

This is truly a captivating story of the Bible in an easy-to-understand, compelling way that kids (and the whole family) will love!

It’s written for ages 6-12 with 104 short chapters.

You can find this story Bible here on Amazon!

9. The Gospel Story Bible: Discovering Jesus in the Old and New Testaments

This easy-to-read storybook introduces your whole family to important stories from the Bible – both Old and New Testament! But more importantly, points you back to Jesus always, just like the Beginner’s Story Bible does.

The illustrations are gorgeous, there are child-friendly discussion questions, and biblical Scripture references for each story to read further!

It’s great for any age!

This one also pairs perfectly with the family devotional we have been going through, Old Story New: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God. Each week references a story from this Bible making it a perfect companion, but it can be used as a stand-alone book 100%!

You can find this story Bible here on Amazon or from New Growth Press!

So which one of these fantastic illustrated Bible storybooks is the best, in my personal opinion??? *Drumroll please……….

For ages 2-6: The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible

The Beginner Gospel Story Bible is our favorite for ages 2-6!

It is the most used story Bible in our home and has been used for a long time. We have read this cover to cover and it’s been our main daily reading and Bible journaling for my daughter.

Plus, as she starts learning to read on her own she can grab this any time! It’s a GREAT option for family Bible time and to get your kids to start memorizing key phrases and stories in the Bible. 🙂

For ages 6+: The Biggest Gospel Story Bible

I was THIS close to putting this for all ages, however, I do think it would be best for slightly older. Just for the amount of reading, vocabulary, and some of the detailed pictures.

Not to say you can’t read this to your 3-year-old, because you totally can!

If you have kids aged toddler to teen, this would be a fantastic option for all!

For all ages: The Laugh & Grow Bible

The Go Minno Laugh & Grow Bible is great for all ages!

It’s SO interactive – I absolutely love the connection questions at the end, key phrases, and simple prayers for kids to pray.

It’s good to read and talk about with the littlest of littles (who can talk 😉) and serves as a great children’s devotional as they get older and read on their own.

Plus, this is available on audiobook and my daughter LOVES listening to it on her Kindle!

You can’t go wrong with either of these on this list for your little ones! Choose for what season you are in, pray and God will show you. 🙂
