It doesn’t take much to run to the store and see the shelves filled with Easter activities – lots of stuffed animals, plastic eggs for egg hunts, Easter-themed coloring books, candy, and other springtime crafts.

While there isn’t anything wrong with enjoying those things, Easter isn’t about the Easter bunny, cute chicks, candy, and springtime.

It’s about JESUS! Amen?!

So where do you find Christian Easter activities for kids and families? And why are they SO much harder to come by?

Well, you don’t have to look any further!

I’ve put together a list of 5 of our family’s favorite Christian easter activities, as well as 16 other fun Christ-centered activities you can start doing together as a family and teach your children about the resurrection of Jesus.

Easter Egg Story Hunt

Celebrate the true meaning of Easter with a super fun Easter Egg story hunt! It’s so easy, and just as fun as a traditional Easter egg hunt, except it focuses on Christ.

What you’ll need:

Type up the Easter story with it broken out into several bullet points. Keep one copy as the answer key and then print another to cut into strips.

Write a part of the Easter story on the strips. You can start with the last supper, and end with Jesus rising from the dead, depending on how detailed you want to get.

Here are some examples:

  • “Jesus predicted that he would be crucified”
  • “Jesus enjoyed the last supper with his friends”
  • “Peter denied Jesus”
  • “Jesus was crucified”
  • “They found an empty tomb – Jesus had risen!”

Take each egg and fill it with a piece of candy and one strip telling part of the Easter story in the Bible. Place them out in the yard and let your kids enjoy a fun egg hunt!

As they sit and eat their candy, you can all work together to put together the Easter story. This is such a fun activity to do as a family and tell the story of Easter! 🙂

Another Option:

If putting together the Easter story egg hunt seems a little too overwhelming, no problem!!

Start out with writing Bible verses on the strips of paper and putting them in the eggs, then simply read them out loud as your kids open each one! 🙂

Watch Christ-Centered Easter Shows

Watching TV doesn’t have to be a bad thing! You can watch some awesome Christ-centered TV shows that point back to Jesus, the true meaning of Easter!

One of our favorite (and SUPER easy) ways to do this is through Go Minno. It is a fantastic faith-based monthly streaming service for kids.

There are SO many different shows your kids can watch that are “mom-approved“! The best part? They have a specific playlist with just Christian Easter shows!!

You can get your first month free here! And there’s no commitment. So if you want to cancel and not get charged, go for it!

But, I think you may be hooked just like we have been the past 3 years. 😉

Listen To Praise & Worship Easter Songs

Get your whole family up and start singing along and dancing to these fun uplifting Easter songs for kids!

This is a great way to get a little bit of exercise, laugh together, and ultimately praise God with song!

You can show your kids how God loves it when we sing praises to him with joy, and these scripture songs are specifically to help point to Jesus and his resurrection (Easter). And you’ll have fun together in the meantime. 😉

Read Easter Story Books

What better way to spend time together as a family than to read some fun books together!

This would be a great evening activity to do the week leading up to Easter.

You can really reiterate Jesus this Easter season by reading these amazing Christian Easter books for kids! You’ll find books for infants all the way up to 10 years old.

You can also participate in this super FUN Easter reading challenge with your family… I’ve even included a free printable to help get you started! 🙂

Bake Easter Treats

This is such a fun one that can be super fun and simple!

You can use these fun cookie cutters to make the cookies in the shapes of crosses, angels, and even throw some chicks and bunnies in there.

Another fun idea would be to make a “Jesus is alive” birthday cake!

Use icing, sprinkles, and piping to decorate it with crosses, hearts, etc., and celebrate that He is alive!

You can read Luke 24:1-12 while the cake is baking and explain to your kids that Jesus is alive and well today, and that is the true meaning of Easter.

Then go eat some cake. 😀
