Motherhood has been the absolute BIGGEST blessing of my life, and the absolute TOUGHEST part of my life.

It’s amazing that something that brings so much joy can also bring so much struggle and reveal your sin in a mighty way as well.

Luckily, God not only encourages us in parenting through Bible verses and His Word, but also encouraged some biblically minded people to write books with practical ways in dealing with parenting as well.

I have personally read all or most of these books, and they have really changed the way I parent as a mom, honestly.

What’s so great about this list is that these books are PRACTICAL!

I am not a fan of reading books with long stories and no practical application.

I do appreciate the stories some to relate, but I want action, and WHAT do I actually need to do?

Ultimately, these books will lead you not only in parenting, but parenting from God’s perspective, which looks much different than the world’s.

Maybe you have been feeling discouraged lately in your life, because we all struggle with that “mom guilt” and wondering if we are even doing this parenting thing right, right?

Well, I hope that you find a solid read or multiple books from this great list of Christian books specifically catered to moms, and let God speak to you through the pages and grow more in love for Him and find more joy in motherhood!

Top 7 Christian Books For Moms:

Without further ado, here are what I think are the BEST Christian books for moms to read and grow deeper in love for their children and the Lord.

**Make sure you check out our top picks for daily devotionals for moms – quick 10 minutes a day to get your mindset focused on God!

1. Becoming Mom Strong

Becoming MomStrong: How to Fight with All That’s in You for Your Family and Your Faith – Heidi St. John

THIS. BOOK. WOW!

That’s how I would sum it up. This is definitely one of my top 2 picks in Christian mom books. I love her approach and how she encourages you in 3 ways:

  • To be strong in the Lord
  • Know who you are in Christ
  • To impart that strength to your kids

There is also a great 6 week Bible study book that goes with this book, I highly recommend doing this as well, whether alone or with a group of mom friends.

We did this study a couple years ago and I still remember highlights and takeaways from it! The study is a huge bonus to this already amazing book. You can see I marked mine up quite a bit…

Also, her promises of God book is a great daily devotional, especially for moms to read! It is a tiny book and I keep it on my nightstand every night.

2. Habits of the Household

Habits of the Household: Practicing the Story of God in Everyday Family RhythmsJustin Whitmel Earley

“Daily habits are powerful ways to shape the heart–but do you find yourself giving in to screen time just to get through the day? You want to parent with purpose–but do you know how to start?” *Taken from the book description

This book is all about forming daily liturgies (worship habits) to turn our hearts towards Christ, beginning with our daily quiet time with God.

The author doesn’t stop there though – there are godly habits for every aspect of life including:

He categorizes each habit or routine into 3 areas – forming children, forming parents, and forming families.

Your marriage, family time, parenting, and most importantly, your biblical lens will be challenged and stretched to look more like Jesus.

This book was a GREAT (and more recent) read for me and I am still working my way through it. Once you complete the introduction and how-to-read sections, you can bounce around to which area you feel you need more help with.

Say you have waking and bedtime down, but need some work in the family devotions or marriage. Start with those sections!

What I truly love about his book is that every page is grounded with scripture to back it up, as well as practical tips, which are SO helpful when applying these habits. 10/10 recommend for moms (and dads)!

It’s very friendly towards young families but would benefit those with older children as well. It’s just best to start these when your kids are young and even before!

3. The 5 Love Languages For Children

The 5 Love Languages of Children: The Secret to Loving Children Effectively – Gary Chapman

This book (and the whole series really) is so great and very eye-opening! I have read this book in almost every form it comes in – for marriage, singles, and of course for children.

My husband and I read the original as a couple’s devotional and it not only helped us better communicate with one another but just the opposite sex in general.

The children’s version is no different! It helps with the following when it comes to your children’s love language:

  • Discover your child’s love language
  • Assist your child in successful learning
  • Use the love languages to correct and discipline more effectively
  • Build a foundation of unconditional love for your child
  • Find dozens of tips for practical ways to speak your child’s love language

You can check out the ENTIRE series HERE! They have love languages for men, teens, and even about God’s love.

4. Praying Through the Bible For Your Kids

The One Year Praying through the Bible for Your Kids – Nancy Guthrie

This book is developed by The One Year team and they have some of our favorite books, including our daily kid’s devotional we read every morning with my 5 year old (The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers – HIGHLY recommend!).

This book really helps keep your focus on God and knowing that HE is in control, and He has the plan and purpose laid out for your kids.

Each page includes the date and:

  • Multiple scriptures to read
  • What to pray for and focus verse
  • Short devotional to read (2-4 paragraphs – so quick!)
  • Personalized prayer to pray over your children
The One Year Praying through the Bible for Your Kids

This would also work as a great daily devotional for moms because it’s laid out that way. It goes through an entire year, meaning you can pick up on any day and start whenever.

I have noticed a huge difference when reading this book and praying for specific things for my daughter. It’s been cool to see the fruit of that in her life!

5. Christian Mama’s Guide To Parenting

The Christian Mama’s Guide to Parenting a Toddler – Erin MacPherson

This was a really great read as well, although I am not a fan of labeling two year old’s as “terrible” – she does acknowledge though that it is tough and with Christ, we can parent and discipline well without losing our cool!

She really dives into tantrums and what causes them, how to discipline while showing Christ’s redeeming love, focusing on your marriage, introducing your child to Jesus, and encouraging your kids as well!

This book has a very “comical” and warm approach which I appreciate, and a great book for parenting children 1-3 years old!

**She also has a book for newborns, the first year, and elementary-aged. You can check them all out HERE!

6. Shepherding A Child’s Heart

Shepherding a Child’s Heart – Tedd Tripp

This book. Again, wow!!

This is the book that reeeeally gets to the heart of parenting, your children, and yourself. It truly is a very biblical approach to shepherding your child’s heart in God’s path of life.

The best thing, it doesn’t matter if your kids are 2 or 22! It’s for all stages of parenting, and one you definitely want to have stashed on your bookshelf.

We also love Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles by his father, Paul David Tripp! It’s a great Christian parenting book that couples should read together!

7. Triggers: Exchanging Parents’ Angry Reactions for Gentle Biblical Responses

Triggers: Exchanging Parents’ Angry Reactions for Gentle Biblical Responses – Amber Lia

We began with a bang and now we are ending with a bang. I mentioned that 1 on this list was one of my top 2 picks of Christian mom books, and now I am ending with the other one!!

This book was probably the most life-changing when it came to how I viewed motherhood and parented my child.

I never would’ve described myself as an angry person – however, parenting truly revealed the triggers I had and I couldn’t figure out why I would get SO frustrated so easily and tend to lash out.

It was EYE-OPENING.

I love that the author not only identifies the problem but gives biblical solutions and ways for you to respond gently, not react.

This one is a definite must-have on your bookshelf, or in my case, on my kindle paperwhite!
