Maybe you are like me and this is a whole new idea and concept to you, but it is one you are going to love and keep as a tradition for years with your family!

So, what is the pumpkin prayer??

The author of the pumpkin prayer is actually unknown but has become a worldwide Christian activity for parents to do with their kids. This could be used any time during the fall season!

Basically, it’s a prayer that shares the Gospel in a kid-friendly/relatable way, along with a neat, interactive, and hands-on activity to do.

So as you are praying through this prayer, you can carve a pumpkin – a super-duper normal fall activity to do, but in a way that points back to Jesus!!

Isn’t that always the goal of everything we do as Christian parents? It’s a win-win! 🙌🏻

I wanted to give you the opportunity to participate in the pumpkin prayer tradition with some FREE printables, but first, here are some fun ways to use them…

Fun Pumpkin Prayer Printable Activity For Kids

There are so many fun ways you can use these pumpkin prayer printables! Use these as a fun Christian Halloween alternative activity, or any time this fall!

Keep God as the focus all fall long with each of the different pages included, and the best part is, they are FREE. 🙂

Let’s look at some unique ways you can use each page (there’s 4 total) included!

Pumpkin Prayer Quote

This pumpkin prayer quote would be a great reminder to keep your focus on Jesus this fall and help your kids do the same.

You can place this in a frame and set it up on your end tables, fireplace, kids dressers, as a cute office tabletop decoration, or any other place everyone can see it.

You could also laminate this and put it on the fridge, a 100% SURE way for everyone to see, because we all gotta eat, right?

This is a great way to maybe introduce prayer to your younger kiddos, and help strengthen your preschooler/elementary/older kiddos’ prayer life as well.

Pray through this prayer with your kids each day especially during the fall season, and encourage them to pray on their own (if they are old enough to read).

*I’ve given you two wall art options, so you can find one to fit your aesthetic. 🙂

Pumpkin Prayer Activity

You can use this activity as a replacement Halloween activity, add it to your family fall bucket list, or use it as a thanksgiving activity to keep gratitude on your kids’ minds.

You can follow the step-by-step instructions and read each part of the prayer that corresponds with the action.

For example, the first line is “open my mind so I can learn more about You” and with that, you would remove the top of the pumpkin. Then follow on down the list, taking time to go through each!!

The end goal is to have a pumpkin with hearts for eyes, a cross for a nose, an ichthus for a mouth, and an ear on each side.

But you DEFINITELY can carve your pumpkin with whatever face you want, as long as you read the prayer and really hit home each point with your kids while doing so. 🙂

Not only is this is a great godly reminder, but it helps teach your kids to pray and shows them a fun, hands-on way to learn to pray!!

You can also enjoy some great quality family time together; feel free to even incorporate this fall activity into your daily family Bible time!

Pumpkin Prayer Bookmarks

Where are all my fellow book lovers at??

I see you raising your hand there!

I also included some fun little printable bookmarks for you and your kids to use, each with the pumpkin prayer printed right on it! This is a great way to have a little reminder with you each day to pray.

Place these in your Bible, books, or planners as you are planning out your weeks. This way, you will always see it!

For your kids, you can place them in their kid’s Bible, whatever book they are reading, in their school backpacks, or even tape one to their mirror as a daily reminder to pray!

I would recommend printing these on cardstock, cutting them out first, and then laminating them to make sure they hold up well over time and get the most use out of them. 🎃

  2. Our Sweet Friend Mindy – thanks so much for all the wonderful things you send us! I teach our Kids Club on Sunday afternoons and have bought pumpkins for them to do tomorrow along with the Pumpkin Prayer and they will also do the bookmarkers. What a wonderful gift for them to remember for a very long time. You are the BEST! These freebees help so much when you only have Social Security.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing that Debbie! That makes my heart so happy to know you are going to enjoy this activity with your kid’s ministry, but most importantly that you are teaching them about Jesus and His love for them. Thank you!! <3

  3. I teach faith formation, and I have used this prayer for ,many years. The students’ eyes widen so when I present the pumpkin. This year a neighbor commented on how different it was, as it sets all aglow on my front porch. Thankyou,Mindy.
