Tips For Keeping Your Master Bedroom A Sacred Space
Has this ever happened to you? You come home or have been home all day if you stay at home with your kiddos, and the house is a mess. Dishes in the sink, toys are strewn about, laundry on the couch, the works.
You begin to feel that overwhelmed feeling creeping back in.
What if it didn’t have to be that way in every room? Wouldn’t it be nice to have ONE place that you can always count on to get refreshed and recuperate??
It IS possible!! Let me show you why keeping your bedroom a sacred place is SO important for intimacy in Christian marriage and practical things you can do today to keep it that way. 🙂

This started back after our first year of marriage. I read this article and it really got me thinking about our master bedroom. Were we keeping this a sacred place?
After praying, I felt God nudge us to do a little remodeling and do what we felt we needed to make our master bedroom a sacred space for more intimacy in marriage. This included some paint, wall signs, a new bedspread, and a huge mental shift.
Fast forward 6 years, we are still applying those same principles now and it has made the biggest difference!
By the way, if you are in the middle of a move (something we should be pros at by now 🤦🏻♀️) this is the perfect time start!
Why Your Marriage Needs An Intimate Master Bedroom:
To put it simply… you need somewhere you can be completely yourself! No hiding, trying to keep it together. Your bedroom is the one room YOU have control over.
Playrooms will have toys out, kitchens will have dishes, and the laundry room will have laundry in it. And that’s okay! Those rooms are meant for those things.
Make your bedroom a place that’s meant for you (and your gift aka spouse) to go and feel some sense of calm.
You Need A Safe Place
Now, I’m not talking about physical safety, like protection from a giant tornado or a toy flying at your head. But a place to feel safe spiritually and emotionally.
There are days when I just need to breathe, and maybe even cry a little from the stresses of the day or life in general. I can shut the door and pray, nap, breathe, recoup, or just relax for a bit. G knows that when Mommy needs a minute, the door stays closed.
Do I do this all the time during the day? No, but it’s nice to know I have this safe place to go to when needed.
You Need A Place To Rest
Sleeping in the bedroom… who would have thought! Resting so much more though than just sleeping though.
Before we had our daughter, we started a habit of having our room be our relaxation getaway – including the decor we chose and how we keep it tidier than any other room in the house.
Sometimes, seeing things lying around everywhere and taking up so much space creates a feeling of tension in the room. Then it’s hard to sleep because you see the chaos around you. This = not feeling well-rested.
I’m not saying we are spotless neat freaks – BELIEVE ME haha we like to throw clothes on the floor, dresser, bed, pretty much any space we can. But we do make it a point to put a little more effort into this room than others, so we can rest well.
You Need A Place To Be Inspired
There is something to say about how decor and clutter affect our brains. When your room feels more relaxing, you may feel more inspired to do things!
Clean the house, read a book, do some journaling, pray, or whatever else! You may even feel inspired to talk about your dreams, goals, aspirations, and other things with your spouse.
Which leads to the next point…
You Need A Space To Connect With Your Spouse
The most important reason you need to keep your bedroom a sacred place… you need a place to reconnect with your spouse!!
Use this place to be vulnerable with each other. Let it be somewhere where you both can be completely open and honest, connecting spiritually, emotionally, and physically (sorry Mom & Dad)! Shut the door and kick the temporary stresses out.
Our bedroom has been our number one place over the years where we have prayed, cried and laughed the most. Life’s storms will come your way, and this can be a place where you can weather them together.

Practical Ways To Keep Your Bedroom An Intimate Space For Your Marriage:
I get it. You’ve got little ones running around and messes all over. You should see my kitchen right now just from breakfast! But I urge you to follow these tips to keep that one place in your home a safe, relaxing, and inspiring place for YOU and your spouse.
Your marriage needs it as much as you do!
Here are 5 practical ways you can keep your master bedroom a sacred place:
1. Keep it tidy – Spend a few minutes each morning and throughout the day keeping your room picked up. I’m not talking dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, etc… just keep the clutter to a minimum!
2. Keep your decor simple and clean – choose light paint colors if you can, some cute pillows, a couple of wall hangings, and a simple bedspread just to give you some ideas. Less clutter = less stress, and this is one room you have control over… the playroom on the other hand, ehh that’s a different story! 😉
3. Add some pictures of you and your spouse to keep the romance alive! Wedding pics would be great!! Keep those memories at the forefront of your minds so you can reconnect daily.
4. Make your bed EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. This is one of the easiest things you can do that will make the biggest difference! Those 5 minutes spent making the bed helps get my mind ready for the day.
5. NO kids’ toys allowed in the bedroom ❌ If G brings toys in we may play for a minute, but as soon as we leave the room she has to bring those back out with her! No toys are stored in there! This makes it easy to follow the first tip, keeping your room tidy.
I hope this post helps not only motivate you to start making your master bedroom a sacred place, but give you the tools you need to start! 🙂
