I’m not going to lie, I’m not a huge fan of nonsense television. Truth be told, I don’t really like television at all; especially, children’s programming. I am proud to say that Peppa Pig, Dora the Explorer, and so many others have never entered my house.

Now, calm down all you Peppa fans. I’m not saying there’s anything necessarily bad with those shows because I’ve actually never watched them.

But what I do know is that most children’s programming that is labeled as “educational” is actually nonsense with an educational glaze. It’s meant to make parents feel better about letting their children watch it while keeping them highly entertained (if not zoned out). The truth is, there is usually no depth to it at all.

If my children are going to watch something on TV, I want it to be worthwhile and educational. ACTUALLY educational. I don’t have time (or my children’s lives) to waste on nonsense.

That is why I wanted to share a little secret with you

What’s In The Bible? With Buck Denver DVD Review

It’s called Buck Denver Asks: “What’s in the Bible?” and it’s one of my favorite Bible teaching tools for my kids.

Buck Denver Asks: What’s in the Bible? Volume 1- In the Beginning

It’s a children’s DVD series created by Phil Vischer (who also created VeggieVales- I LOVED his book). Now, for those of you who find VeggieTales annoying (and a lot of times that is the case with me), these shows are much different. They take children through the Bible book by book.

The main characters on the show are puppets and Phil himself BUT you will find a lot of depth with these DVDs. I mix these shows into our Bible lessons (along with felt stories).

There are a total of 13 DVDs that go from Genesis through Revelation. Each DVD has two 25-minute episodes so it’s convenient to use if you only have limited time.

Buck Denver Asks: What’s in the Bible? Volume 10 – Jesus is the Good News

Each episode is full of brilliant illustrations and clever songs that help children learn Bible truths. One of my favorite illustrations is the one about sin, salvation, and redemption. I highly enjoy watching these DVDs along with the children and I learn something new myself every time I watch them. The best part? They pass the parental “annoying show” test. 🙌🏻

I don’t think these DVDs have had as much publicity as VeggieTales (maybe because they are so “Bible rich”).

We only found out about them because my father-in-law picked one up from a sale table at a Christian bookstore. He didn’t know what it was but he thought it looked interesting. He gave it to us thinking our kids might enjoy it.

We put it in one day to watch it as a family and we were blown away. I expected it to be a lot of silliness with a little Bible mixed in. I was wrong and so surprised!

Buck Denver Asks: What’s in the Bible? Volume 2 – Let My People Go

I know this sounds like a sales pitch but, the truth is, I don’t want your kids to miss out. I truly mean that. As parents, we only have a short amount of time to teach our children everything we can before they are on their own.

We don’t have time to waste with them zoning out on silliness. We need to make our time with them count.
