There are so many awesome Advent activities we can do with our families, but we always want to make sure we are focusing on Jesus!

One way to do that is through reading God’s Word together as a family. But where do we start?

Enter in, this beautiful Advent family devotional!!

The Light Before Christmas: A Family Advent Devotional, was written by Marty Machowski, the author of another one of our favorite family devotionals and other fantastic Christian children’s books.

This book walks you through devotions in the weeks leading up to Christmas. It’s a beautiful reminder of why we celebrate Christmas – not the presents, not Santa, not spreading good cheer… Jesus.

Let’s take a look at how the layout flows as well as where you can pick up your copy today!

Book Layout

The Light Before Christmas has 96 pages and 13 devotionals — three for each of the four weeks of Advent and one more for Christmas. It follows the story of a girl and her grandmother, who reminds her about Jesus, the true light of Christmas.

Each devotional includes a Scripture for the day, an object lesson, a focus Scripture, a question to discuss as a family, a song to sing together, and a prayer.

It’s laid out so wonderfully and tells you everything you need to do and know, all you need is to make the time and grab a Bible!

I love when devotionals are laid out this way because they are still deep, yet short, and focus on Jesus through every chapter.

As far as the book itself, it’s a smooth hardback cover and the gold shines so beautifully! The pages are thicker with some slip to them, making it easy to flip through.

No matter your family’s size or children’s ages, there is something about coming together to talk about God’s Word and learn with each other, and this book helps you do that!

What Ages Is This Book For?

So what ages is this book good for exactly? Any and all!

But truly, whether you have toddlers or teens, all family members can benefit from this story, and spending time together as a family in God’s Word.

We have a 5-year-old and not only does she look forward to reading this, but understands the message within.

This would make an excellent substitution for your normal family Bible time during December!

I am a firm believer that no matter the ages of your children, reading God’s Word has an impact. In fact, we started memorizing Bible verses when my daughter was a toddler and it’s amazing what she has grabbed onto since then!
